Jan 13 (HCI) India and SL today signed an MoU to construct 3000 rain water harvesting systems at a cost of SLR 300 million in Jaffna District. MoU was signed by Arindam Bagchi, Acting High Commissioner of India and V. Sivagnanasothy, Secretary, Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation in the presence of Minister A.H.M. Fowzie. Project envisages construction of 3000 rainwater harvesting systems for 3000 households in selected divisions of Jaffna District.

'SL meets IMF budget deficit target for 2017' |
Jan 13 (EN) Sri Lanka has met the key budget deficit target for 2016 under an agreement with IMF with revenues also slightly higher than targeted, Minister Ravi Karunanayake said. Provisional budget data show that the overall deficit is also better than numbers originally presented to parliament in a budget for 2016. Canned fish imports down by 16.2% in 2016 |
Jan 14 (CT) The import of canned fish to Sri Lanka has decreased by 16.2% in 2016. Import of canned fish to Sri Lanka in 2015 was 49,016 metric tons and in 2016 it was only 29,994 metric tons. Largest proportion of canned fish (84.2%) has been imported from China and the rest is from Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Yemen, Seychelles, India and Maldives.
