Two committees to finalise Budget proposals

Sept 11 (SO) Two top level committees have been appointed by the national unity Govt to finalise the Budget proposals. Minister Ravi Karunanayke said that a committee comprising himself, PM and Dr. Sarath Amunugama has been appointed to discuss and finalise the Budget proposals. SriLankan, pilots reach deal on alcohol test

Sept 11 (ST) SriLankan Airlines and the Airline Pilots Guild of Sri Lanka have agreed that breathalyzer tests on pilots will no longer be carried out by security officers but by trained medical staff of the company. Army to release another 700 acres

Sept 11 (ST) The Army has agreed to release to civilians 700 more acres of private land occupied by it in the Valikamam North area in Jaffna, District Secretary N. Vedhanayagan said. He said this was in response to a request made by him to the military to release 1,500 acres currently held by the Army so that the resettlement of displaced people could be expedited. SL Ports Authority buys, hires tugs

Sept 11 (SO) Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), which has an aging fleet of tugs, is getting two new tugs built in China to service the merchant ships calling at its ports and is evaluating a tender to charter two tugs until the new boats are delivered. The two, 65-tonne Bollard Pull tugs being built in China were launched recently and will be delivered in February 2017 and then the SLPA fleet will be complete, SLPA officials said. Body of a medical student found from hostel
