May 22 (Island) Economics Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa welcomed the decision to release DNA leader Gen Sarath Fonseka from prison. The decision to release Fonseka was very just and reasonable, the Minister told The Island on Sunday. This release would have an adverse impact on the incumbent leaderships of the UNP and the JVP, the minister said adding that the leaders of those parties were not happy with Fonseka coming out of jail and engaging in politics.

Racket of smuggling elephant tusks via Sri Lanka busted

May 22 (CT) A large consignment of ivory and logs was detected by the Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) Sri Lanka Customs (SLC) at the sea port in Colombo today.
