Southern expressway to extend to H�tota

Aug 31 (DM) The Southern expressway will be extended upto Hambantota from Matara as one of the most prioritized projects of the govt, Road Development Deputy Minister Nirmala Kotelawala said yesterday. Sri Lanka boosting Colombo bunkering capacity 50 pct

Aug 31 (LBO) The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has commissioned a new oil storage tank with the capacity of 5,200 metric tonnes at Colombo port and plans to expand capacity further to increase the bunker business. The SLPA's oil terminal is used to store petroleum products imported by bunker license holders, who have now increased to 11, to supply bunkers to ocean going vessels. more..

Jaipur Foot travels to Jaffna again

Aug 31 (Hindu) From next month Sri Lanka will have its second rehabilitation camp to fit its amputees with the world's best and cheapest artificial limb, the famous Jaipur Foot. India's Ministry of External Affairs is supporting the camp in Jaffna to be organised by the Jaipur-based Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayta Samiti (BMVSS) from September 1 to 30 to help those who lost their limbs during the internal strife in that island nation. more..

CEYPETCO plunged into huge losses

Aug 31 (DM) The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) has run into a staggering loss amounting to Rs. 27.21 billion in the first half of this year alone against a loss of Rs. 26.9 billion for the entire 2010, according to a the COPE exposure, a Parliamentary source said yesterday.This comes amidst CEYPETCO�s struggle to recover a colossal sum of Rs. 67 billion from seven government and semi-government institutions and a private power supplier. more..

Aug 31 (AFP) About 1,200 alleged Tamil Tiger rebels will reportedly be released in Sri Lanka as the emergency rule imposed 28 years ago to deal with the separatist movement comes to an end.
