Police raid illicit brewery in Katunayake

Dec 17 (DM) The Katunayake police raided a hideout in Adiambalama that had been used to produce illicit liquor (Kasippu) on a large scale. The officers were able to seize ten barrels of illicit alcohol during the raid while the value of the illicit brew seized was yet to be ascertained. Gem mine collapses; six injured, one missing

Dec 17 (DM) Seven young men who were digging a gem pit at Puhulwella in Kirinda had been buried under a pile of earth when the pit caved in last evening, six have been rescued so far.
