Feb 27 (DM) The Court of Appeal delivered a judgment recognising the applicability of the provisions of the RTI Act in respect of a competitive exam conducted to recruit employees to a State run bank. Court of Appeal delivered a judgment dismissing an appeal filed by Bank of Ceylon challenging the Right to Information Commission's decision to provide information pertaining to the competitive exam conducted by the Dept of Exams to recruit Trainee Staff Assistants.

1,200 new recruits to man 400 new rail crossing gates
Feb 27 (TM) Dept of Railways has sought approval from the Cabinet to hire 1,200 employees to be deployed at some 400 railway crossing gates which are planned to be set up around the country. Several accidents at faulty railway crossings have been reported in the past few months. Number of children across the country suffer heat stroke
Feb 27 (Island) A number of schoolchildren across the country have been affected by heat strokes in recent weeks due to the prevailing high temperature, Consultant Paediatrician at the Lady Ridgeway Children�s Hospital, Dr. Deepal Perera, says. US, Australia donate Beechcraft aircraft to SLAF
Feb 27 (DN) SL Air Force (SLAF) Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa said that the US and Australian Air Forces will donate two state-of-the-art aircraft to the SLAF, further strengthening defence cooperation. Accordingly, a Beechcraft-King Air 360ER (Extended Range) aircraft will be donated by the US Air Force to SL and it will arrive in June, whilst a Beechcraft-King Air 350 aircraft, donated by the Australian Air Force, will arrive in the country in May. Are SL�s anti-drug crime operations working?
Feb 27 (TD) In a bid to tackle escalating concerns over crime and drug-related activities, SL govt launched a special operation that goes by the name Yukthiya (justice) on Dec 17, 2023.
