Sri Lanka rupee plunges amid money printing as car imports collapse
Apr 19 (EN) Sri Lanka�s rupee has plunged to 199 to the US dollar in March as vehicle imports collapsed to almost nothing, official data showed as domestic credit driven by printed money, recovered. Road death toll in past five days climbs to 52
Apr 19 (Island) There had been 52 deaths in 399 traffic accidents countrywide during the past five days. Starting from 6 am on April 13 to 6 am yesterday, there had been 399 accidents causing 52 deaths and injuring 669. Most of the fatalities had been due to head- on collisions. The highest number of deaths was among motorcyclists and pedestrians, DIG Rohana said, adding that 2,242 vehicles had been taken into custody over accidents and drunk driving during the five days.

Muralitharan stable after being hospitalised for cardiac treatment
Apr 19 (CB) Muttiah Muralitharan was admitted to a hospital in Chennai on Sunday (17) morning for cardiac treatment. Last heard, the Sri Lanka's cricket legend is doing fine and is totally out of danger. According to Sunrisers Hyderabad officials, Muralitharan went for a check-up and on the advice of the doctors he got himself treated immediately. Two dead from alcohol poisoning; spotlights need for quality control
Apr 19 (FT) Two deaths over the weekend in Galigamuwa due to alcohol poisoning once again highlights the need for stringent regulation and control over the quality of products and production. In addition to the deaths, one other person is in hospital in serious condition following a party at a residence.
