Ageing Sapugaskanda suffers partial breakdown |
Feb 4 (Island) The production in a section of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery came to a standstill following a breakdown of a boiler and, as a result, production of diesel has stopped. The guarantee period of the boiler was long past 15 years. Sapugaskanda Refinery was commissioned in 1969 with Italian technology and it has been given a guarantee period of 20 years. 20 TN Fishermen Arrested by Lankan Navy |
Feb 4 (PTI) Twenty local fishermen were Monday arrested by Sri Lankan Navy when they were fishing near Katchatheevu, an islet in the Palk Strait, fishermen representatives said. The navy personnel also allegedly cut the fishing nets of about 50 boats and threw them into the sea. They also pelted stones and bottles at many boats and damaged them besides threatening fishermen not to fish in the area, S Emerite and T Sasuraja, fishermen organisation representatives said.

India built 10,250 houses in Sri Lanka in 2013 |
Feb 4 (PTI) The Indian govt has built 10,250 houses last year for internally displaced people in Sri Lanka's northern and eastern provinces. "Another 27,750 houses will be constructed under the same scheme. The funds are being released directly to the beneficiaries," Finance Minister P Chidambaram said. Mel was killed for Rs 1,200 |
