Midwives want health care units in villages |
Apr 5 (Island) The Public Service Midwifery Union (PSMU) has urged the Health Secretary to take immediate measures to establish a community health nursing service and establish health care units at village and provincial level. Apr 5 (Island) The government pays US $ 7.7 million as monthly lease rental for 21 air craft employed by the SriLankan Airlines, said a document tabled, in Parliament yesterday, by Civil Aviation Minister Piyankara Jayaratne. Mihin Lanka too had obtained two craft on lease basis and their monthly rental stands around at US $ 475,000, the report said. SriLankan Airlines had earned a total income of Rs 216,138 million during the years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Schoolgirl killed in crocodile attack |
Apr 5 (Island) In yet another crocodile attack in the Akuressa police area, a 16-year-old schoolgirl was killed at Malimbada (north) yesterday morning. The police identified the victim as D. K. Nuwanthika Sathsarani. The police quoted villagers as having said that the victim was washing her face in the Nilwala Ganga when a crocodile attacked her and dragged her deep into the river. Sources said that the girl was a Grade 12 student of the Palatuwa National School.
