Mar 20 (SL) A committee has been appointed to look into the possibility of issuing a ban on competitive sports at the national level for children under 13 years of age. Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said discussions to introduce this policy follows complaints and requests from principals of schools and parents. Sri Lanka to open Chinese built first coal power plant named Lakvijaya |
Mar 20 (GDI) Sri Lanka first coal power plant named as Lakvijaya ( meaning the victory of Sri Lanka). It is expected to be declared open on March 22 by President Mahinda Rajapaksha at Norochcholai, Puttalam in Northwestern Province. Lakvijaya Power House built with Chinese assistance will add 300 MW to the national grid as its first part of the total 900 MW power generations. The President laid the foundation stone to build the coal power plant on May 11, 2006.
