Aug 6 (SAMN) The government is keeping a close tab on the ongoing visit by the United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs John Holmes, with media access also being restricted owing to fears that comments by him might paint a poor picture of the current relief efforts. Informed sources said that on the insistence of the government, media access to Holmes has also been restricted during his visit to Jaffna and Batticaloa until a news briefing tentatively scheduled for Thursday.

Thirty super markets to be opened in Eastern Province |
Aug 6 (DM) The government will establish 30 super-markets called �Co-op City� in the Eastern Province at a cost of Rs.120 million within 60 days under the Rising of East programme to promote trade in the area.
